[His name is mentioned on the Polish Air Force memorial at Northolt, U.K.]

Por. Kolanowski crashed on 8.11.1942 with Wellington Z 1277 and escaped.
He was recaptured near Żagan, Poland  and murdered at Liegnitz, Germany 
now Legnica Poland, on 31.3.1944 by Lux and Scharpwinkel.
Cremated at Liegnitz.

"Great Escape"
Six Airmen buried in the Poznań Garrison Cemetery have been killed after the 
"Great Escape" from Stalag Luft III at Żagan, Poland. 

They were killed by German Gestapo and later on cremated. 
The urns containing the ashes were placed in a special mausoleum in the camp.
 In 1994 all the ashes were transferred  to Poznań.
